The Deceit of the Flesh
MAY 15, 2013 - OCT 27, 2013
Frissiras museum presents from May 15, 2013 to October 27, 2013 at the building of 3 Monis Asteriou the group exhibition entitled “The Deceit of the Flesh”. This exhibition constitutes juxtaposition between the tribute to the female body and its beauty and sensuality, reflected in the works by the 31 Greek and foreign participating artists and the work of French painter Jean Rustin in which man’s suffering and decay are portrayed. In essence, the cornerstone of this exhibition is a striking opposition in which these two ways of artistic expression confront each other. It stems from the two ways artists cope with human frailty, mortality, the decadence of old age, illness, ugliness, pain, physical and mental decay; When faced to this tragic dead-end, some choose to ignore reality and turn to a worship of beauty, ephemeral and superficial. More seldom, others choose to courageously face the mirror and accept reality and embrace it. This exhibition attempts to provide the viewer with access to both of these approaches, through works of unique artistic value and shocking truth. Nevertheless, beyond all that it attempts to once more depict the greatness of painting, a precious form of expression of the Apollonius spirit in which tragic man needs to escape in an effort to pursue assistance through life’s rough journey.
